Adult Basic Literacy Tutor

Many people struggle with some aspect of reading, writing or numeracy resulting in embarrassment and loss of confidence. Adult literacy means being able to communicate effectively for learning, life and work. People with good literacy skills are more likely to have higher self-esteem, better health, better jobs and higher wages than those with poor literacy skills.

A tutor is able to work with the adult learner to develop knowledge, skills and the understanding relevant to their own lives or workplace needs whether it is to fill in forms, compose an email, understand or follow instructions or help with a child’s homework. The confidence gained from one to one tuition will improve life, well being and opportunities.

An adult without the basic literacy/maths skills will be at an extreme disadvantage in life. The everyday tasks we all take for granted – reading a book, menu, road signs/shopping will become an embarrassment and may lead to being locked out of the job market. In addition, the inability for an adult to support their child’s learning and development will greatly effect family life and relationships.
