As a qualified teacher, I have been working successfully as a tutor for 20 years and am able to offer English from infant to GCSE level and Maths from infant to secondary level. All my lessons are taught on a one to one basis at my home, the students home or via Skype.

My Experience

I have extensive experience of teaching 4-18 year age ranges of students and cover all levels of ability. I teach key stage 1,2,3, English and key stage 1,2 Mathematics. I enjoy creating a tailored lesson structure for the individual child and challenges they present.

I have a Bachelor of Education degree: qualifications to teach adult literacy and numeracy. I keep up to date with all the requirements of the different examination boards.

Approach to tutoring

My approach is a belief that much of a child’s potential is centred on their confidence, and therefore I work with students by ‘tailoring’ lessons individually to focus on the areas in which they struggle while setting attainable goals and therefore building self esteem. I have a good relationship with my tutees and keep in touch with many of my ex-students.

Totally committed and focused – Pat is an excellent tutor. She is very patient and encouraging when helping our daughter with her English. Our daughter has enjoyed her tutoring sessions and hopefully all the hard work will be reflected in her exam results we would recommend her.

Get to know me

I consider I am a calm, patient and friendly teacher, methodical in approach, and tailor my teachings to the pace of the student to build confidence in themselves, while giving them the ability and ultimately their progression into adult work life with confidence.

Many of the students I have worked with have been followed by their younger brothers and sisters; these families have been continuously part of my life, and I, theirs, for several years. I have seen many of my older students leave school and progress to college/university or other equally satisfying careers and the reward is immense.

The adult students I have taught have progressed to the extent, which on completion of their studies in basic literacy and numeracy have gained the confidence to help them succeed in the workplace.
